Celebrate and support freedom of expression with a special Teach-In on June 18 featuring local authors who will read/perform short sections from banned or controversial books like Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, 1984 by George Orwell, The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood, Maus by Art Spielgelman and The Trial by Franz and others. Each author will briefly reflect on why these books continue to resonate. Readers include Medford Poet Laureate Vijaya Sundaram, incoming Medford Poet Laureate Max Heinegg, poet and professor Julia Lisella, and Stephanie Schorow, author of nine books on Boston history. The final speaker will be Christina L. Dobbs, associate professor at BU's Wheelock school, who will speak on book banning through the United States. The event will include audience participation and refreshments.
The library strives to be open and accessible for all. If you need accommodations to attend the program, please be sure to register. There is a follow-up question that will help us understand how we can include you in our programs.
