2nd/3rd Grade Book Club

Monday, February 243:30—4:00 PMYouth Services Programming RoomMedford Public Library111 High Street, Medford, MA, 02155

This month we will be reading Maribel Versus the Volcano by Sarah Hannah Gómez:

In 1980s Washington state, Mt. St. Helens is rumbling. Twelve-year-old Maribel isn’t concerned at first, despite officials evacuating her neighborhood. Her family is convinced it’s just a precaution, even as the mountain continues to rumble. Maribel decides to disobey orders and return home for items she and her sister left behind – just as the volcano finally erupts. As ash rains down, Maribel realizes she must learn to focus if she’s going to survive.

Register here, then swing by the library and pick up a copy of the book! Books will be available for pick up approximately one month before each meeting.

During Book Club, children are invited to discuss their thoughts and ideas about the month’s chosen book. They are expected to listen to what others have to say and respond kindly, even if their opinions differ. Discussions can get lively and loud. Discussion is accompanied by a small craft or activity related to the book, which can sometimes be messy.

Please note: this club is only for children in 2nd or 3rd grade.

Registration is required and will open on January 1st.

We want to do our best to provide your child with the best accommodations possible to make their experience at 2nd/3rd Grade Book Club both fun and rewarding. Any additional information you can provide to help us support your child would be very helpful.

Attendance Policy

Please note, when someone does not show up for a program they are registered for, they are taking away an opportunity for another member of the community. Patrons who are registered for an event they cannot attend are asked to cancel their registration at least 24 hours in advance. Failure to show up for programs two (2) times without notice will be grounds for being waitlisted for 90 days. Patrons who arrive 10 minutes or more after the program start time will be considered no-shows. They may be denied access after that time, and their spot may be given away to people on the waiting list.

Registration for this event has now closed.
